Expense Summary Archives: 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012

  1. Campground fees are controlled by workamping, boondocking and/or staying in one spot for longer periods.
  2. Lower rate reflects standard RV policy. Higher rate reflects full-timer's policy.
  3. Only Cynthia is covered by life insurance. Jerry is not eligible.
  4. We both get free health care coverage. For privacy reasons, we don't disclose why or how.
  5. We have a Droid X for cell service and Mobile Hot Spot internet.
  6. Our household has SatTV, an extra receiver is $7 per month.
  7. RV Clubs are Good Sam (3 yrs), Passport America (3 yrs) and Coach-Net (1 yr).
  8. Groceries are food and any household items purchased at Walmart. Also includes dining out.
  9. Movies, park admissions and other "touristy" things. Our entertainment is primarily our hobbies and all the equipment to do them is already paid for.
  10. Allows our mail to be sent to us wherever we may be. Annual plus any postage used.
  11. Miscellaneous is unexpected minor expenses, shortages in other areas, ministry supplies, etc.
*We both have health care coverage. For privacy reasons, we don't disclose the details. We also do not list big ticket purchases we make for the same reason.

I love the break down of expenses. It gives a real insight as to how inexpensive one can live.

Hi. I learned of your blog on EONS Camping Clan. One of the ladies there is thinking of living in a RV full time and another person suggested she read your blog. All I can say "Awesome" Good for you doing what you really want in life and enjoying it.

THis is helpful but what clothes do you buy for $6.00 and the groceries are low. Groceries are the same as you would pay in a house. Depending, Life ins may be low. Sat tv definitely low. RV and Truck maint. do not include breakdown allowance, Gasoline is low, unless you are planning to stay in one spot. Entertainment could go either way. In my opinion, you need to ad at least $6000. or you will be living a poor life style on the road. We are 7 years on the road and live frugally but we LIVE>

Walmart, Target and Thrift Stores all sell clothes for $10 or less per item. Groceries? There are only 2 of us and we eat quite well. No lobster or Dom Perignon but we don't care for that anyway. See our menus in the Library for a sample of what we eat. We're country folks so meat, taters, veggies and bread and we are eating high on the hog. :)

What we have in savings already and what we add each month covers any emergency expenses, repairs, maintenance, etc. As for gas, we use the truck to pull the camper at 12 MPG, we use the 70 MPG scooters for everything else.

If you have to have a plush lifestyle, then you will need more money than we do. We don't do without anything we need and we have extra for what we want. As it says on the main page... Happiness is not having what you want, it is wanting what you have. Happy camping and we hope to see you in a campground one day!

I was concerned when I saw no expenditures for health insurance, until I saw your footnote. I'm an Eons member who saw a link to your site. Happy, healthy trails.
